Helpful facts about adopting an EHR.
The Louisiana Heath Care Quality Forum has authored a document to provide detailed assistance to support the promotion of widespread EHR adoption among all providers. Titled “Volume One: The Adoption Process of the EHR Toolkit,” the document encompasses the following:
- Common, evidence supported definitions and features of an EHR, including key differences from an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Explanation of the difference between the two primary EHR models (Application Service Providers vs. locally hosted).
- Breakdown of the potential costs, benefits and advantages of EHR adoption.
- Selected resources to assist providers in practice readiness and assessment, financial considerations, and software and vendor evaluation.
In addition, the West Virginia Health Information Network has prepared a collection of resources to help providers educate patients about electronic health records and their benefits. This “toolkit” includes downloadable pdfs of a benefits brochure, general brochure, office poster, privacy/security brochure, physicians/providers brochure and a seniors brochure.
